The success of the tournament we supported in 2010 gave rise to the option of sponsoring this as an annual event.
We held a second football tournament which was a great success. It was attended by the ex-president of the football association for Southern Sri Lanka, who is now on the board of FIFA. He announced that it was quite an exciting event as this was the first time that under 11’s had ever been allowed to play a tournament in the Southern province!
It was a 2 day event and we presented 120 medals, 400 certificates and 12 trophies and was kindly sponsored by KVS Transport and the HAT Foundation, the cups being called ‘The Ken Sievewright Challenge Cups’. Hopefully this will now be an annual event.
It was a fantastic event to be a part of, and it was clear what it meant to the children, as commiserations were offered to the losing finalist team, most of them were crying inconsolably – however, they still received runners up medals!
Previous events 2010
The football tournament is a fantastic community event and brings everyone together. The chief of police and Minister for “sport” and “Education” for “Southern Sri Lanka” attended, along with other dignitary’s.
The first event saw over 1200 persons attend at short notice and it appears that nearly 3000 will attend over two days.
The Cost of this event is approx £400 per year and if anyone wants to be the main sponsor just let us know.
